Here is why, when learning a language, you need to learn the *ahem* "colourful" words early on. In materials science it is normal to refer to carbon nanotubes simply as "NT". Some Kazakhstani scientists made attempts at making nanotubes with another element, prepending the international symbol for the element they used to "NT" to differentiate it from carbon nanotubes.
