I was driving down Granville Street the other day and this crossed my mind. We humans are kind of forgetful and we do stupid things because of it. We forgot that urns were for fires. Plants took root in the ashes in long unused urns that once lit up the entrances to access roads, houses and temples and we got the idea that they were always decorative planters. We build new buildings with empty niches because the sculptures that were in there were stolen or destroyed so long ago that when we when we got to a point where we were able to build new buildings in the ancient style, we thought that style included empty niches. When nobody kept up the paint on the surviving sculptures for hundreds of years and we got the idea that they were supposed to be unpainted. And so on. After driving by multiple churches with cell phone towers in the parking lots I started to imagine a post-apocalyptic renaissance with people building new churches with useless, ornamental cell phone towers because churches always have these weird towers, right?
