#dailycolonist1914 - The news out of Victoria, British Columbia, 100 years ago today:

• Looking on the bright side for Christmas Day by focussing on the 100th anniversary of the end of the War of 1812, "Century of Peace Is Being Celebrated" between the British Emprie and the United States. Large photographs of King George V and President Woodrow Wilson grace the front page. 
• Premier of British Columbia, Sir Richard McBride, sends a Christmas message to the Ottawa Citizen expressing "Canada's Duty in Empire War"
• Dispatch of Canadian Princess Patricia Regiment to the front is now official.
• Christmas greetings from King George and Queen Mary.
• Christmas dinner for Canadian troops on Salisbury Plain, "as far as possible, officers and men will dine together".

• Article on Christmas in Berlin
• Special meeting of directors of the company that wants to build a bridge over the Burrard Inlet at the second narrows that the provincial governemnt refuses to endorse until the financing is sorted out does not go at all well. "For two hours the feeling ran high and at times language, which was not parliamentary, and repartee, which was far from being polished, were indulged in."
• More ads than usual and the usual advertisers take out larger ads than usual, and nearly all of them are simply Christmas well wishes. The most striking is the back page, which usually taken out in full by David Spencer, Ltd., while still a full page ad, just says, "David Spencer, Ltd. Wishes You All A Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year".
• And finally, a small notice on the front page stating "Owing to the Christmas holiday there will be no issue of The Daily Colonist tomorrow morning."
