« previous next »#dailycolonist1914 - News out of Victoria, British Columbia, 100 years ago today.
- Fantastic photos to back up yesterday's story of a British bombing run over a German Zeppelin shed. [And note the aeroplanes! These aren't the Sopwith Camels (which didn't exist until 1917) that we see in war movies, these were scarcely more than what we could now call a microlight.]
- German ship fakes a surrender of the coast of Brazil, kills sailors coming to take possession of the "surrendered" ship, pisses off British into sinking the German ship.
- Lengthy report from the front, which I have included the most interesting excepts from, detailing life in the trenches as it had come to be, and more examples of the Germans using white flags and red crosses for sneak attacks.
