The Daily Colonist, September 23, 1914

« previous next »

#dailycolonist1914 - News out of Victoria, British Columbia, 100 years ago today.

The articles and ads that caught my eye today:

  • Canadians keen to be dispatched to front [It's all fun and games until you lose and eye, and maybe half your face, and lie rotting in a ditch.]
  • Serbian army captures Sarajevo (where this all started with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand less than two months ago.)
  • Italian saber-rattling
  • [Meanwhile, on the moon] British cruiser Pegasus is trapped in the harbour of Zanzibar [a name still synonymous with, "far away."]
  • Smart shoes, sweaters for fall, and good advice in today's ads.
