« previous next »#dailycolonist1914 - News out of Victoria 100 years ago today:
- "Blood Indians" [Kainai] offer money and man-power to serve the British Empire
- $40,000 ear-marked for expansion of Victoria drill-hall
- South Wellington (south of Nanaimo) destroyed by fire [and will never really be rebuilt... it's just a rural electoral district of Nanaimo now]
- Credibility of the German Emperor undermined by an interesting juxtaposition of stories about "Stubborn Resistance of Brave Belgian Troops", "Dead Germans Lying in Heaps", German ships using ancient convention to "hide" in the Dardanelles, an expert opinion that Germany is "Doomed to Defeat", and an editorial blaming the entire war on the Kaiser vs. a report titled "Kaiser Dreams of Victory" about the Kaiser meeting with the American Ambassador to Germany.
