I've broken that arm before - a few times actually - so I knew what it was as soon as it happened....
...so I picked my glasses and the broken arm off the floor (Ha! Had you going, didn't I?) and went to fix them. Typically it is just this screw in the spring mechanism on the arm that comes undone over time. This time, however it was more serious: the screw had actually snapped. This has happened once before and I knew that finding a replacement screw was not easily done. The previous time it just happened that I was able to get one out of another armature from an old pair of glasses with a similar mechanism. Unfortunately I had no such luck with my spare parts today and kicked myself for not having bothered to update my prescription and buy new glasses earlier for now I had no usable spares (my other pair having broken over a year ago). Like the computer upgrade this is something I should have done a couple years ago but my money was going elsewhere.
So, suddenly it was an ugent necessity. I jury-rigged my glasses with a completely mis-matched arm from my spare parts and our Valentine's Day out turned into a trip to Oakridge Mall to visit an eye-doctor and get new glasses. Several hours and several hundred dollars later, and while my perscription is at least up to date now, I still only have one usable pair of glasses and a big, fat, hole in my wallet.
