Other NYC stuff

« previous next »

So here I am in NYC. I'm sitting in a loft apartment owned my Elisabeth's friend Michelle typing away while they read the Sunday Times.

The flight was uneventful and I slept through most of it - jaded world traveller that I have become (or maybe it had something to do with only getting 2 hours sleep the night before). I knew I was in New York when on the way to the baggage claim I noticed several armed soldiers patrolling the airport. I was a tad confused about what to do but after a phone call to Elisabeth I got a bus into the city.

It took a while because of traffic and when I finally made it Elisabeth led me to her friend Michelle's loft at 18th and Broadway. We went via the subway. From Michelle's we had dinner in a swanky Thai restaurant that was just *fabulous* (even just waiting for the meal felt glamourous, like something right out of "Sex and the City") and caught a cab to St. John the Devine Cathedral for the Parade of Ghouls. The airport, the subway, a loft in the city, dinner, then a NYC cab - the experience started in full swing.

The cathedral thing was amazing and I took a ton of pictures, but they will have to wait to be posted because I need to rotate most of them and I don't want to deal with it right now.

After the cathedral it was back to Michelle's to change and then to Batcave. The club experience was quite neat. There were three separate rooms, any one of which could complete on it's own with any of the clubs in Vancouver and Toronto - but this was all one club. I probably would have enjoyed it a lot more if I wasn't completely exhausted, so we left "early", only a little after 3am.

We crashed at Michelle's loft and walked over to a Belgian waffle place nearby for brunch, passing a fire station on the way. And now it is time for Sunday afternoon lounging on the couch-bed reading the Times.

And in New York, even the dogs wear black:
