Stanley Park

[Gothic BC] 49, going on dead: episode 14

In this episode: The second half of my ride downtown where I go around Stanley Park (I contemplated calling this something like 13b or 13½.) I talk about the realisation of why I hate my apartment building, my wedding anniversary, the anniversary of my mother's death, and offer no explanation for the the missing 18 minutes.

[Gothic BC] 49, going on dead: episode 13

In this episode: I take my bike downtown and ride from Granville & Pender to Dead Man's Island along the Seawall bike path to meet a friend, dodging dodgy tourists and special snowflakes the whole way. The ride continues in episode 14, where we circle the park.

The Daily Colonist, September 9, 1914

News out of Victoria, British Columbia, 100 years ago today.

There is a lot of the "usual" vague stories of troop movements and lists of casualties, lacking in detail because of censorship. The propaganda aimed to incense Americans seems to be over for now, although there is one, one paragraph story stating nothing more than the Kaiser has sent a letter to President Wilson without any mention of what might be in the letter.
• More intimations that it will be a long war of attrition
• Vancouver calls for coastal defences
• Interesting ads, and more...
