[Gothic BC] 49, going on dead: episode 23

The final episode: I manage to make a special ride for World Goth Day.

[Gothic BC] 49, going on dead: episode 22

Triple feature: all three rides I managed to get out on during the rainy month of April. In the third I actually, finally, make it all the way out to UBC to, of all appropriately gothy things to do, attend a memorial.

[Gothic BC] 49, going on dead: episode 21

n this episode: Two rides and a new opening sequence featuring time-lapse video from my first ride. The first ride in this video is a pre-Valentine's Day baseline run where I decide for a moment that maybe it a race. In the second video I try out the newly paved Arbutus Greenway (which isn't very green yet) and ride up to the summit of the Arbutus Ridge. Voiced on the day before the 6-month mark of my separation, which one my cats remains upset about, but also beginning to recover. I'm not alone here.

Transit Adventure Du Jour

It started snowing a little before 4:00. I left work at UBC at 5:00 and walked to the diesel-bus loop. It was already a tragic shit-show. One articulated bus as stuck at one end of the loop. There were multiple "transit supervisor" vehicles, but no actual supervision and a lot of chaos. I walked over to Bay 1a for the 480 and there were already enough people to fill an articulated bus waiting in line. I waited for a bit and watching what was going on with the other buses. A 43, a 49 and 41 went by, all stuffed past the red line.

[Gothic BC] 49, going on dead: episode 18

In this episode: A short ride on Christmas Eve, voiced on Ukrainian Christmas day wherein I ramble about my new camera, the closing of the local garden shop as a result of the housing crisis in Vancouver and point out the worst of the criminals fuelling it, attempt to use a drive-through bank machine, discover a newly finished bike path to explore later, dodge dogs, do some more exploring, and talk about the very dark place I got to this past December (recovery is not linear.)

[Gothic BC] 49, going on dead: episode 17

In this episode: I take advantage of another break in winter rain to get a quick ride in. I had a hard time voicing this one. I babble about Christmas ornaments and why I am not going to decorate my tree this year.

Special Deal at Shannon Mews, Half the Space for Twice the Money!

Going by controversial Shannon Mews (the complex at 57th Ave where they moved the previously convenient Marpole post office to, see http://www.mbarrick.com/blog/160805/gothic-bc-49-going-dead-episode-3 ) this morning on the way to work I noticed they had at least half a dozen "Now Renting" signs spaced along the Granville side of the development.

[Gothic BC] 49, going on dead: episode 12

In this episode: My wife moves out and I try to deal with what that triggers. I learn the cycling-enthusiast-jargon pejorative for the people who dress like they are in a race, and learn about a the "Bike Snob NYC" blog ( http://bikesnobnyc.blogspot.com ). I get caught trespassing. I muse about my father's post-separation situation in terms of 7th C. Rome. I have a last-minute Classical epiphany.

[Gothic BC] 49, going on dead: episode 11

In this episode: I re-do my first ride to see how I am doing, with a side trip to another park. I realise just what it is about full-on douchebag cycling gear that annoys me. I skirt around some pretty major emotional distress. Life goes on. Cats help.

[Gothic BC] 49, going on dead: episode 10

In this episode: It's not what got out of Pandora's box that'll get you, it's what was left behind. That or Vancouver drivers. I also go into some detail about my 44 year old bicycle, with illustrations.
