The Daily Colonist, October 10, 1914

#dailycolonist1914 - News out of Victoria, British Columbia, 100 years ago today:

Things are downright horrible in Antwerp now. Fighting is back behind the second line of forts [which means the Germans have and advanced beyond where my grandparents lived at the time]. The city is being bombed and shelled and fires are raging out of control. No where is safe. This is covered by several articles in the paper and I have included the beginnings of a few, but really the news "today" bears reading from the source http://archive.org/stream/dailycolonist56y259uvic#page/n0/mode/1up

Other news I picked out today:

  • Meanwhile in Brussels, people are starving because the Germans are appropriating all the food for themselves.
  • British aeroplanes bomb a German Zeppelin shed
  • Indications are very strong that the Ottoman Empire will enter the war on the side of Germany
  • A photographer's account of trying to photograph the destruction of Antwerp.
