The Daily Colonist, August 13, 1914

« previous next »

#dailycolonist1914 - News from Victoria 100 years ago today:

  • Map of the European war zone on the front page
  • Great editorial about how the Colonist will not print and will not pay the Associated Press for unverified, sensational stories, which pans the American press for printing lies and rumours and also goes on to utterly pan the Seattle Post-Intelligencer for publishing a sensational story where "the absurdity of such a story ought to have been evident even to a Seattle news editor."
  • Turkey buys the German ships reported in the Dardanelles yesterday, Ottoman neutrality now suspect.
  • Bad day in Namaimo where one man falls down a mine shaft and another loses a leg after being hit by a train.
