Job Hunting and Whatnot

« previous next »

I've got a job interview out in Burnaby near Production Way station today. It's not the greatest job on Earth and I'm not super excited about it - which pretty much ensures I'll get an offer - but I can't afford to pass up opportunities in this job climate. Tuesday I have what is effectively a second interview (I had to pass an online technical test to apply and I'll be meeting with C-level executives) for a much more interesting job within easy walking distance from home.

The Tuesday job is in my specific area of expertise and there are very few people in Vancouver qualified, but the jobs in this area are equally scarce here. The only postings I ever see in Canada are always in Toronto and occasionally Calgary. This would be the perfect job to hold onto for the next couple of years while I transition out of this realm of overspecialization.

The plan, if I get either one of these jobs, is to use it to fund getting the MOT MBA at SFU and move into a career of getting evil scientists to do my bidding.

Failing that, there is an interesting part-time job a friend told me about. It's not enough to get by on by itself, but it would leave time to push hard on my photography.

And, if all else fails, it's off to points east.
